I am honored to lead the Resources Division at LifeWay and serve with a team of leaders who are passionate to serve the Church in her mission of making disciples. Each Wednesday, I share the heart behind one of the resources our team has developed and give an opportunity for you to register to win a free copy of the resource. This week’s resource is two free spots to CentriKid for your group. Our Kids team helped write this post.
There are many important things that happen with our kids during the summer: family trips, activities and sports with the family, and time to connect without the busyness of the school year. The summer provides a different rhythm for families than the school year does. The same is true for a local church kids ministry, and a Christ-centered summer camp experience is a great tool that provides unique experiences for kids. Last summer I spoke at CentriKid camp and watched my daughters love the unique experience the camp provides. Here are 3 ways kids camp is a unique part of your summer ministry.
1. Kids have the entire week programmed for them.
Kids make life-long memories and have tangible connections to God’s Word when an intentional and loving staff lead each activity and caring leaders accompany them through the journey. Everything at camp is specifically programmed to connect with kids. Kids love high-energy games, interactive Bible Study, messy fun, and worship times specifically programmed to captivate their attention.
2. Adults have one main job at camp.
As a ministry leader, you get to be a part of some of the most meaningful and lasting memories in a child’s life by taking part in the camp experience with them. At CentriKid, for example, the team “takes the clipboard” so that all adult leaders can fully focus on building life-changing relationships with the kids in their ministry. Adult leaders can have a meaningful conversation over breakfast, pray with a group of kids during hang time, or share their testimony while eating snow-cones.
3. Everything points to Jesus.
Obviously there is a difference between a camp experience that is centered on Christ and one that is centered on something else. Camps focused on other things can be lots of fun, educational, and helpful. But only Christ is ultimately transformational. At CentriKid the gospel is presented many times so that kids will hear God’s truth connected to every activity of the day. Every single large group worship session, recreation game, and activity will have a spiritual application from God’s Word to make the message of Christ clear in the lives of kids. At the end of the day, the most important thing a kid should walk away from camp remembering is the gospel connection to an activity they love.
CentriKid is a 5-day, 4 night camp for 3rd – 6th graders to experience the time of their lives and learn more about the message of Jesus Christ! We believe that every moment matters in kids ministry, so we promise to free you up from all the distractions we can during your week of camp. We invest in preparing the program and training summer staff to lead at camp because we know God works through the week of camp to change lives. CentriKid staff love the Lord, love kids, and want to see every camper have a great experience.
