Nashville is a great place to live and a fun city to visit. Folks who know Kaye and me well know that we enjoy great restaurants. So when friends come to Nashville for work or vacation, we are often asked, “Where should we go eat?” Here are our recommendations, by neighborhood.
Everyone I have taken to Silly Goose has said, “This is one of the best sandwiches I have ever had.” I recommend the Bird or the Sparky. The dinner is amazing too. Don’t ask for a soda or you will get the stink eye that says, “Are you sure you are cool enough to eat here?” But their tea and lemonade are amazing.
Every meal here has been really, really good. It is a quaint yet modern neighborhood atmosphere that will make you want to live in East Nashville.
A great neighborhood restaurant with friendly staff, great tapas, and excellent main courses. From 5-6:30 during the week, tapas are only 5 dollars.
We believe this is the best ice-cream we have ever tasted. The salty caramel is amazing. There is also a Jeni’s in 12 South.
The Gulch/ Downtown
Kayne (pronounced like sugar cane and not the rapper) is anniversary-type expensive but is guaranteed to be one of the best steaks you will ever eat. You also should try the bacon smothered in cotton candy.
The creative and fresh Asian dishes and sushi are served as they are ready, and they have always tasted great. Kaye believes “the Bomb” is aptly described.
An eclectic array of burgers and milkshakes that are so good. My favorite so far is the Tennessee — declared by Zagat’s to be one of the best “50 burgers in 50 states.”
I could just say “Tastes awesome — they have good sauces/seasoning on the food,” but here is better description from their website: “Etch sets itself a part with bold flavors and colorful presentations.”
You can meet with the chef to determine the size and cut of your steak, and enjoy some oysters, steamed or raw.
We think the Chicago pizza here is the best Chicago pizza we have enjoyed outside of Giordano’s and Lou Malnati’s in actual Chicago.
In our opinion, we have enjoyed the best Italian restaurant in Nashville.
Friends who have lived in Nashville for years, in the midst of all the new restaurants, still believe Park Café is one of the best.
12 South/Belmont/Hillsboro Village
The pulled chicken is moist, and the brisket is really flavorful and tender. This is our favorite barbecue in Nashville.
We think this is the best burger in Nashville, just ahead of Burger Republic, the Pharmacy, and Whiskey Kitchen. Sweet potato fries and kale salad offer some more healthy options, if you insist.
Right across from Belmont, in a historic neighborhood, sits this great sushi place.
Taqueria del Sol
Great tasting tacos. Really good lunch spot.
Great coffee (local latte is my favorite), breakfast, and sandwiches. The burger also makes lists of one of the best burgers in Nashville.
Down South (Franklin/Brentwood)
Cork and Cow
The best steak, in our opinion, south of downtown Nashville. Kaye and I have splurged a few times and shared the Tomahawk Prime. Amazing.
Excellent food, southern flare/vibe/whatever, located on Main Street in downtown Franklin.
In a historic mansion, Mere Bulles offers a great atmosphere. The crab bisque is renowned for a reason. The prime rib is also really good.
We love this place for breakfast, but it is really good anytime. It is a staple in both downtown Nashville and downtown Franklin (free and easy parking across the street in Franklin).
Mack & Kate’s
A small restaurant on Franklin Road with great tasting food from salads (we love the crab and avocado) to appetizers to the main course.
