I am honored to lead the Resources Division at LifeWay and serve with a team of leaders who are passionate to serve the Church in Her mission of making disciples. Each Wednesday, I share the heart behind one of the resources our team has developed and give an opportunity for you to register to win a free copy of the resource. This week’s resource is a new digital devotional tool, DevoHub. And today, I am giving away three-month subscriptions to DevoHub for five churches.
Colossians 3:16 instructs us to…
Let the message about the Messiah dwell richly among you, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, and singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, with gratitude in your hearts to God.
Even more, we believe that spending time in God’s Word has the power to transform lives. In fact, our LifeWay Research team found in a recent study that daily Bible reading is the number one predictor of spiritual growth. And yet, only 19% of the people attending our churches actually do.
So, why aren’t we more successful in this area?
Common reasons people often give for not reading the Bible more often are:
- I don’t have time.
- I don’t understand it.
- I don’t know where to begin in such a big book.
How do we bridge that gap? If we believe that Bible reading is powerful and effective, how can we help people find and create time to read it, and to understand it, and to do it daily?
This is the heartbeat behind a new service called DevoHub. DevoHub is a smartphone app that anyone in your church can download to his or her mobile device. This app, along with your subscription, allows you to provide trustworthy daily devotional content to your church members, guests, or even outreach contacts to encourage them to be built up each day through the reading of the Word. Several of LifeWay’s devotionals are available through DevoHub, including Journey and Stand Firm as well as the new devotional which is exclusive to DevoHub: Renew Daily.
When it comes to the barriers that keep people from daily bible reading, the idea of “not knowing where to begin” is less of an issue with DevoHub, because a simple daily reading is served up automatically, it’s easy for someone to start.
And “lack of time” is not as significant of an issue, because anytime someone has a spare moment in the day, and has access to their phone, they can easily connect into Scripture.
And “not understanding Scripture” is less of a barrier, because each devotional reading for the day includes Scripture along with an explanation on meaning and opportunities for application so your people can understand what they are reading and be encouraged and challenged to grow.
For our team, DevoHub speaks to a great need in the lives of our people and we’re excited to offer it to you. After beta-testing DevoHub with a group of churches, we are now opening up the service to all churches, and I invite you to setup a free 2-week trial for your church by visiting DevoHub.com.
Here is some feedback from our beta churches:
Personally I am LOVING this app. So easy, just a click anywhere you are to have a devotional. No excuse for not doing it or saying “I don’t have time.” And not only one devotional; I click and read from each one!
-Angela S. Brents, First Baptist Church, Ponchatoula, LA
“As a staff member this delivery method enables me to get devotional material in the hands of many more members and guests in a format they use.”
-Marty Blakely, Sr. Associate Pastor, Third Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, TN
