I am honored to lead the Resources Division at LifeWay and serve with a team of leaders who are passionate to serve the Church in her mission of making disciples. Each Wednesday, I share the heart behind one of the resources our team has developed and give an opportunity for you to register to win a free copy of the resource. This week’s resource is two free spots at CentriKid. Our CentriKid team helped write this post. (I am excited to be a camp pastor of one of our camps this summer!)
Summer camp is one of the most exciting weeks of the year—kids love the energy and excitement of going to a new place away from home. Parents love the opportunity for their kids to do something new (and to be gone for a few days!) and wise kids leaders know that ministry breakthroughs can happen in powerful ways at overnight camp. Here are four great reasons for summer camp in kids ministry:
1. Personal Growth
Kids who go to camp often return home changed. The schedule of staying away at camp requires some independence in things like eating, daily hygiene, picking hang-time activities, and packing up…at least at the end of the week. Many times kids have apprehensions about being away from home, but they come back exhilarated because of the things they’ve learned and the memories they made.
The number of hours in a week of camp leads to many opportunities to hangout and have intentional conversations. As a leader, you can find “quality” hours in the “quantity.” Kids need connection with meaningful adults who care about them. Some kids who go to camp will be regular attenders from church that you can build a deeper relationship with at camp. Some other kids may build a lasting connection through the camp week that draws the whole family into a relationship with the church and a relationship with the Lord.
3. The Gospel
Each summer there are thousands of camps across the country, but at CentriKid, the gospel is presented many times so that kids will hear God’s truth connected to every activity of the day. The goal is never to pressure campers, but to make the message of Christ clear in the lives of kids.
Summer memories are the best, and summer camp is certainly something that should be fun! As a ministry leader, you get to be a part of some of the most meaningful and lasting memories in a child’s life by taking part of the camp experience with them.
We know there are so many things that happen during the summer with family vacations, ballgames, and all the church activities—but camp is definitely an essential element. Kids make life-long memories and have tangible connections to God’s word because of the intentional CentriKid staff who lead each activity and the caring church leaders who accompany them through the journey.
CentriKid is a 5-day, 4 night camp for 3rd – 6th graders to experience the time of their lives and learn more about the message of Jesus Christ! We believe that every moment matters in kids ministry, so we promise to free you up from all the distractions we can during your week of camp. We invest in preparing the program and training summer staff to lead at camp because we know God works through the week of camp to change lives. CentriKid staff love the Lord, love kids, and want to see every camper have a great experience.
