I am honored to lead the Resources Division at LifeWay and serve with a team of leaders who are passionate to serve the Church in her mission of making disciples. Each Wednesday, I share the heart behind one of the resources our team has developed and give an opportunity for you to register to win a free copy of the resource. This week’s resource is the Living Proof Live Simulcast on September 16, 2017. Our women’s ministry team wrote this post.
For many church leaders, ministering to the women in the church is not always an area of focus. Often this key ministry assignment is handed to a female leader in the church and forgotten about. However, for this ministry to be most effective, pastors should be involved in championing ministry to women, equipping leaders, and ensuring the ministry receives resources needed to reach and disciple women.
Here are three keys to serving women well in your church:
1. Know them.
One could argue that when God created Eve, He must have invested a little more time on her social skills. Women are, by nature, highly relational beings. They are often the pursuer and maintainer of friendships and highly aware of the emotions and perceptions of others. For this reason, the first step of investing in the women in your church is taking the time to know them. This includes paying attention to the way God is using their gifts to edify the church.
2. Value them.
Once a relationship is established, the next step is to show the women in your church that they are valued. Consider ways women can get involved with new programs or ministries. Providing a seat at the table for female leadership will not only allow some women the opportunity to lead, but it will also make sure that whatever you are creating will meet the needs of both men and women within your congregation.
3. Invest in them.
Our culture often jokes about how women cannot go anywhere alone. Due to their highly relational nature, women enjoy being together. There is a vulnerability that can occur within a group of women that sometimes cannot be experienced within the context of mixed-gender groups. Investments in these groups reap great results as women respond to leadership training, discipleship groups, Bible studies, and events. Seek to find opportunities where women in your church can come together to have fun, dive deep into Bible study, and experience that intimacy that only comes through female friendship.
A great way to kick-start your ministry to women is to host the Living Proof Simulcast. This event gives women a time to come together at your church to worship, hear powerful teaching from Beth Moore, and connect with each other. Many churches use this event as a launching point for their fall Bible study season and work to connect women to groups during the event.
